"Dale Inglis draws on a long tradition of artists who have depicted the Thames, from Turner to Seago and beyond. In the RIVER CROSSING group of paintings, beautifully offset by the architecture of the Nomura building, he explores the ebb and flow of the river using a layered and fractured technique that echoes the long history of the Thames"

(Alison Smith, Director, Collections & Research, The Wallace Collection)

"A fantastic show; I enjoyed every piece of work, in particular ‘River’. Composed of 18 minimalist panels, it’s full of subtle variation, and together they create a vibrant whole. While it depicts the Canon Street Bridge across different seasons and weather, it is also strikes me as a portrait of emotional states – each panel evoking a different mood: joy, melancholy, anger, serenity. It feels like a personal, internal landscape, as much as an external one – a reflection of Dale Inglis’ lived experience crossing that bridge mutiple times, come rain or shine.

“A delight of an exhibition, providing a new insight into Dowgate and the River Thames, and speaking to the many commuters who toil in and out of the City. It was great to see the paintings in front of the windows where the bridge below was peeking out”

(Dame Alison Gowman CBE, Alderman, Dowgate, City of London Corporation)

“Dale Inglis’ excellent artworks are so evocative, especially for someone who has had a long connection with Dowgate and the Cannon Street station area”

(Chief Commoner Henry Pollard, Deputy, Dowgate, City of London Corporation)

“Held in such a prestigious location perfectly suited to the subject matter of Dale’s complex, multilayered  paintings, ’River and Bridge’, ‘Bank 2’ and  ‘Cannon Street Railway Bridge’ particularly struck me. The surfaces and subject matter give a feeling of being steeped in time, a sense of history, a journey, and capture the importance of river crossings, linking humanity North and South, East and West.

“I love the vastness of Dale Inglis’ art, the physicality of it all, just wonderful”

    (Liba Keramika, Artist)

“J’ai passé un moment formidable, avec cette histoire de peinture”

    (Elliot Tchitchiama, Architect)

“The Nomuta setting for RIVER CROSSING is wonderful for the paintings and shows them off very effectively with the spectacular outside views blending in so perfectly. ‘Journey’ is my favourite. Hanging against the slatted wooden Reception panel, so complimentary to the painting, with the station name lettering adding further depth and intrigue, the gentle golden palette exudes an atmosphere of calm in an area that is usually hectic”

    (Lisa McCaffery, Artist)

“Thanks to the impeccable curating, viewing Dale Inglis’ work became an intimate experience for me, his work triggering many associations. His paintings and techniques are intriguing and ‘River’, in particular, is rich in multiple interpretations.
